SCF Softball Welcomes El Paso For Final Non-Conference Doubleheader at Home

The SCF softball team (28-6, 4-0 Suncoast) return home for a break from Suncoast Conference play with their final non-conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon, March 16 as they welcome El Paso Community College (7-13) to the SCF Softball Complex. Game times will be at 1 and 3 pm.

Last Time Out:
The Manatees are coming off of their second sweep in conference as they defeated South Florida State College 8-6 and 3-1. Currently, the Manatees pulled into first place in the Suncoast after #1 FSW (34-1, 3-1 Suncoast) were upset by Hillsborough Community College (11-14, 1-3 Suncoast).

The Squad:
At the plate, the squad of sophomores Cheyenne Nunez, Haley McFadden and Nicci Palumbo and freshmen Madi LoCastro, Makalya Benavidez, Lauren Bostwick, Sabrina "Sas" Long and Madelyn Graham continue their strong play.

Nunez, who is one of the team's speedsters, is batting .337 with 34 hits, 20 RBI, 30 runs and 20 stolen bases. Nunez was 4-for-7 with an RBI and three runs scored against HCC. Nunez has 43 stolen bases in her career.

McFadden is batting .294 with 16 hits, the home run and 17 RBI. McFadden was 4-for-7 with five RBI against HCC.

Palumbo is batting .364 with 28 hits and 11 RBI. Palumbo was 1-for-4 with a run scored against HCC.

LoCastro is doing her job well both at the plate and on the mound. LoCastro is batting .366 with five home runs and 22 RBI while going 6-3 with a 1.50 ERA and 27 strikeouts. LoCastro was 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the series against HCC and in game two, she pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts.

Benavidez is batting .386 with 27 hits, five RBI, 19 runs and eight stolen bases despite going 0-for-1 against SFSC.

Like Nunez, Bostwick also leads the way in baserunning. Bostwick is batting .271 with 19 hits, 11 RBI, 15 runs and 16 stolen bases. Bostwick finished 1-for-5 with an RBI against HCC.

Long is batting .366 with 30 hits, two home runs and 25 RBI. Long was 4-for-7 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored against HCC.

Like LoCastro, Graham possess a significant amount of power. The Bartow native is batting .352 with 19 hits, three homers and 14 RBI despite going 0-for-6 with a run scored against HCC.

Meanwhile on the mound, freshman Kailey Christian continues her consistency on the mound as well as at the plate. Christian is 15-1 with a 1.49 ERA and 135 strikeouts while also batting .353 with 30 hits and 22 RBI. In game one against HCC, Christian threw a complete game giving up one run on one hit with five strikeouts while going 1-for-4.

Scouting El Paso CC:
El Paso CC comes from NJCAA Region 5/ Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) and are led by Kathryn Gutierrez.

The Tejanas are entering the matchup with a four-game winning streak after winning four straight games against Seward County (5-2,5-1, 15-14, 11-3).

Sophomore Athena Muniz leads the Tejanas batting .563 with three home runs and 19 RBI while also going 4-4 with 30 strikeouts. Muniz was 9-for-15 with a home run and six RBI while going 2-0 with six strikeouts and giving up five runs (four earned) on 19 hits (2.77 ERA in two games).

The Tejanas will play Pasco-Hernando State prior to playing SCF on Friday, March 15 at 1 and 3 pm.

Series History:
The Manatees are 5-1 against the Tejanas. Both teams played each other last season where the Manatees would win the series winning three of the four games.

SCF is 42-5 against non-Florida community college
